What C1 Russian actually looks like
C1 is the level where being correct stops being the goal.
You handle Russian comfortably, including abstract and professional topics. What's left is the fine layer: register, connotation, and the constructions natives pick without thinking.
What already works
You can follow a lecture, write something that will be read by adults, argue a position, and understand humour that depends on wordplay. You are not translating. You think in the language for stretches at a time.
The errors that remain are not the kind that get corrected. They are the kind that get noticed and let go.
Where it still breaks
Lexical government — the verbs that behave like nothing else. These look ordinary and are not:
✓Компания достигла цели.
✗Компания достигла цель.
The company reached its goal.
Достигать takes the genitive. Every instinct you have says accusative, because every ordinary transitive verb does. There is no rule; there is a list, and you meet it one verb at a time.
The partitive — a genitive that means some of, where the accusative would mean all of it:
Суп пресный — добавь ещё соли.
The soup is bland, add some more salt.
Добавь соль is not wrong exactly. It is a different, blunter sentence, and a native would not say it here.
Participles, which are correct to avoid and flat to avoid always. At C1 the subordinate clause you have been using instead starts to sound like a translation.
And figurative motion. The verbs you learned for walking and driving carry meanings that have nothing to do with movement, and the directional distinction survives into them.
What C1 vocabulary is like
Both dictionary translations are defensible, and only one is right here. Подлинный is authentic, not subordinate. Воспринимать is to perceive, not to accept.
At this level the wrong answer is not wrong in a way you could look up. It is wrong in a way that a native hears and cannot always explain.
What separates C1 from the top of the scale
Not accuracy — you have that. Instinct. The C1 speaker chooses a correct form; the near-native chooses the form that a Russian would have chosen, which is sometimes the less obvious one and sometimes the same word carrying a tone the dictionary does not record.
What to do at this level
Read more and study less. There is nothing left that a grammar reference can give you efficiently. What remains is frequency information — which of two correct options is the one people actually use — and that only comes from volume.
One habit that pays here: when you meet a construction you would not have produced yourself, stop and ask what you would have said. The gap between those two sentences is the whole remaining distance, and noticing it is most of the work.
At C1 a single level label is nearly useless. Our test goes above it — the top band is where both answers look defensible in a dictionary and only intuition separates them. It also measures vocabulary, cases and verbs separately, so you find out where the last gap actually is. Four minutes.
